To research the stereotypes in Czech and German proverbs

This bachelor work deals with stereotypes, which occur in Czech and German proverbs. Firstly, the concept of stereotype and proverb is explained. Stereotype is confronted with terms that are related to it (prejudice, discrimination) and some types and sorts are described. Progression is described internationally and also separately in territory of the Czech Republic and Germany in the proverb part. The typical composition of these statements is also mentioned. In practical part, the survey helps to determine the differences of stereotypical opinions between Czechs and Germans (opinions about their and foreign nation). Based on discovered results, proverbs in Czech and German language are arranged into groups. Those are based on typical characteristics, which occur in mentioned proverbs.
Linguistic Picture of Chods

The aim of this work is to compile the linguistic picture of Chods, that is how the word is fixed in the language and the conceptual system of a native speaker. For this purpose, canonical literature has been chosen that thematizes Chods, furthermore some Chod newspapers, corpus syn2013pub and Jindřich's song-books and a few collections of Chod fairytales and legends representing folk literature. This thesis has also drawn upon systemic data, i. e. dictionaries wherein the word Chod can be found in order to record the denotations of this word. Next, the thesis explored the etymology of the word Chod and its synonyms, which also helps to clarify the objective of this work. All the data have been analysed and the connotations, collocations and also attittude towards the dennotation have been gathered that have been featured in more sources to compile the linguistic picture of Chods. Among the most frequent collocations and connotations confirmed in more than one source are Chodsko, border service, privileges and duties of Chods, Kozina and Lomikar, the uprising, Újezd, rebels, defenders against the Germans, nacionalism, freedom, a traditional costume, dialect, music, bagpipes, pies, Chod festival, ceramics, farmers, a banner, a dog, stubborness, repulsion, pride, distinctiveness, togetherness, hard...
National Stereotypes: the realtion between Czechs and Spanish

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to present the issue of national stereotypes which is nowadays coming to the fore across different fields of science. Within its theoretical part this topic is initially analysed in general terms and the author focuses on the characteristics of the concept of the term stereotype as well as particular aspects which clarify the creation, modification and reduction of national stereotypes. Special attention is paid to the mechanisms of transmission of the stereotypes which form a key element of the following research. These mechanisms together with a set of selected stereotypes about the Spanish people and their culture create a link between both parts of the thesis. The analysis centres around the changing views of the Czechs towrds Spaniards as a result of their increasing participation in international exchanges within Spain such as the Erasmus+ programme. This study also aims to discover the ways in which stereotypes are transmitted that have the most frequent impact on the selected sample of the respondents. The part of this thesis is a résumé in Spanish.

National Stereotypes: The Case of Czechs in the 19th Century

The main aim of this thesis is to explore the birth, the use and the disappearance of national stereotypes on the example of Czechs in the 19th century, focusing on the formation of Czech national autostereotypes. To this end, it utilizes a combination of classical study of literature dealing with said subject and with use of caricature. In the first chapter of the thesis basic terms such as the nation, the stereotype and the national stereotype are defined with the help of sociological knowledge mainly. Then the relation between autostereotypes and heterostereotypes is described. The first chapter thereby constitutes a theoretical framework for the whole thesis. The second chapter deals with Czech national stereotypes in the 19th century and is further divided in two parts. In the first part the history of Czech national movement is briefly introduced. Then the national stereotypes based on historical myths are examined, the main subjects being the relationship to the Catholic Church and Protestantism (especially the Hussites), the rejection of aristocracy, the sacralisation of plebeianism and the heterostereotypes about Germans, Slavs and the Habsburg monarchy.
